
Auxibacterium carbonigenum was discovered 18 years ago.
It was identified by H. Gateway while explored fragments of a meteorite that fell into the Atlantic Ocean that year. Auxibacterium carbonigenum became one of the most, if not the most, significant scientific discoveries of the second half of the 20th century and was considered a symbol of progress. Its finding caused a sensation, due to its ability to synthesize amino acids from carbon and release oxygen. This could help increase crop yields, aid in wastewater treatment, and, most importantly, accelerate wound healing. These properties made Auxibacterium carbonigenum highly valuable in medicine and agriculture. Although tests showed the bacteria to be completely safe for humans, there was initial debate about the suitability of using such a microorganism, foreign to our planet. Opponents of Auxibacterium carbonigenum argued that alien bodies should not be used universally and that humanity had encountered something it should not have. However, the full potential of this bacterium for so many areas of life could not be ignored, and over the next decade or so, Auxibacterium carbonigenum became a fixture in our lives and bore fruit. The bacterium was integrated everywhere, new laboratories were built, fertilizers and pharmaceuticals were produced, medical trials were conducted, and a completely new era for humanity began.
The first case of NPI infection occurred six years ago.
These were outbreaks of mass infections occurring in areas where Auxibacterium carbonigenum was present, occurring too quickly for immediate action and causing widespread chaos and panic. Most people were either infected or killed by the infected. Those who survived began to form organizations or communes to continue their existence.
It remains impossible to formulate a definitive theory about what actually caused Auxibacterium carbonigenum to behave this way, as there was absolutely no reason for it to occur. The closest possibility is that a new mutant species of bacteria, either artificially or naturally, evolved and acquired parasitic properties.
Currently, it is estimated that more of 99.5% of the Earth's population is dead or infected. Most likely, almost all the air on the planet is already contaminated, and even when all the infected NPIs die out, we still won't be able to resume normal life. That's why our organization's main goal now is to find ways to adapt to life in the new world.
